A hero is considered one for many reasons. They are brave, resourceful and intelligent. Above all, they do whatever it takes for the best outcome. This applies to everything in life, including taking care of their teeth.
When it comes to teeth care, flossing is just as important as brushing. As thorough as your Little Hero can be with a brush, they may not be able to reach the tough spots between their teeth where the dreaded Sugarbugs hide. Getting your little one to brush, let alone floss, can be tough enough, but starting early can make a big difference. Here are a few ways to start a good habit.
Good habits build stronger teeth. We can help your Little Hero get started early.
Leave a flossing chart in your child’s bathroom to help them track progress and record their sessions. When a child can keep track and see actual progress with things like bright stickers, it engages them and incentivizes flossing.
Turning flossing into an event is one of the easier things you can do when trying to start a good habit. Depending on your Little Hero, use things like fun songs or stories that focus on flossing, or help time a proper flossing session. Make the event memorable while your child is still in his/her developmental stages and they’ll quickly associate flossing with positive thoughts.
Perhaps most important is backing up what you say to your child. Your little one takes after you, so if they see you slacking on flossing, they will, too. No matter what you say or do, if you don’t follow through on what you say, your child will listen to you less and less. Being a good example is probably the easiest and best way to form a good habit, so make an effort to floss together and track your progress as well as theirs. Do it together and pretty soon they’ll be doing it on their own.
