February is National Children’s Dental Health Month

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. This means that it’s time to raise awareness and promote the benefits of proper oral hygiene for children. In association with the American Dental Association, dentists, teachers, and healthcare providers work to ensure that kids develop good habits at an early age and visit the dentist for regular checkups.

The slogan for this year’s campaign is “Defeat Monster Mouth.” The campaign features posters with the characters Flossy and Buck, Den and Gen Smiley, K-9 the dog, and the McGrinn Twins. Together, they work to fight against Plaqster the monster, which threatens children’s oral health. To defeat Plaqster, the posters show kids how to brush, floss, rinse, and trade in sugar-laden snacks for healthier alternatives.

Do your part to defeat “Monster Mouth”

It is critical to establish good oral hygiene habits at an early age. Studies show that dental disease is the most chronic childhood illness in America. That’s why at Little Heroes dentistry, we are dedicated to giving your kids the right tools to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

Establish good habits early

Practicing proper oral hygiene at an early age prevents dental decay down the road. The best way to make sure that your child is brushing, flossing, and rinsing for the full two minutes is to make the dental hygiene process fun! Turn brushing into a game for your kids, sing a song, or play a video to ensure they are brushing and flossing for the appropriate amount of time.

These little activities will establish great dental hygiene habits well into adulthood. You can also make the brushing and flossing process easier by making sure you get a soft bristled brush for your child’s gums. You can also purchase kid-friendly toothpaste with fun and tasty flavors! By getting your child to think of brushing and flossing as a fun activity, they will be more likely to enjoy it.

Schedule regular appointments

Healthy brushing and flossing habits aren’t enough to fight off the sugarbugs and Plaqster the Monster. Setting regular appointments with your Little Hero will get them the professional cleaning and care that is needed to maintain healthy teeth and gums.
