CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics and stands for Ceramic Reconstruction. It is a premium system that was designed to make high quality, metal-free dental restorations in one visit. This technology was developed by the world’s largest dental equipment provider, Sirona Dental Systems Inc. CEREC utilizes 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology to help design virtual restoration without taking impressions and, when combined with a milling unit, is able to build the actual restoration while you are still in the chair.

There is no longer a need to attend multiple visits and appointments for dental procedures. With the wonders that CEREC can do, we are able to do same-day restorations on almost all procedures. It usually takes two separate appointments for a dentist to place a dental crown. Technology has produced a better r and faster way.

You may be a candidate for CEREC if you have been told you have the following:

If you are interested in replacing old metal restorations with biocompatible restorations, you might be a candidate for CEREC.  Any large restoration in your mouth may make you a possible candidate for a CEREC restoration. If an old restoration needs replacing, CEREC may be right for you.

One of the advantages to CEREC is how fast it is. First, we prepare the tooth by placing a layer of material over it. Then instead of taking a normal mould or impression, we would use a small camera and take a couple photos of the tooth. Next, the picture of the tooth comes up on a computer screen using 3-D technology. While the patient sit back and relaxes we are able to design the restoration on-screen. We will make it exactly the right shape and size. Then, the restoration is milled out of a solid block of dental ceramic, thus eliminating the laboratory step in manufacturing the restoration. It only takes about 10 minutes for the milling process! There are ceramic blocks in all the different tooth colors so that we can match  the restoration up with our patients perfectly. When complete, the restoration is attached to the tooth using a resin and it’s all finished in the one appointment. CEREC system can create beautiful life-like porcelain restorations for front teeth, with color gradations in the teeth and a beautiful polish.
